How to choose a WhatsApp AI agent for your business
Seven questions to ask before you pay for any subscription, from Gulf-dialect support to handing chats over to a real person.

Most of your customers in the Gulf don't visit your website first. They send a WhatsApp message. That makes a WhatsApp AI agent one of the fastest-paying investments for restaurants, clinics and shops. But the market is crowded, and every tool promises it "understands Arabic". These questions help you tell them apart.
1. Does it understand dialect, or only formal Arabic?
Customers don't write "I would like to book an appointment". They write "ابي موعد بكرة العصر". Ask the vendor for a real test in your customers' dialect, and send messages the way people actually write them: typos, English words in Arabic letters, and voice notes.
A simple rule: if the agent can't understand ten real messages from your past chats, it won't understand your customers.
2. Does it use the official WhatsApp API?
Some tools rely on unofficial workarounds that can get your number banned. A safe agent runs on Meta's official WhatsApp Business Platform through an approved provider. Ask directly before you sign.
3. How does it hand over to a real person?
No agent answers everything. What matters is what happens when it doesn't know:
- Does it pass the chat to a staff member with a summary?
- Does it know your team's working hours and tell the customer when to expect a reply?
- Can staff hand the chat back to the agent once the issue is solved?
4. Where do its answers come from?
The best agents answer from your own information: price lists, opening hours and return policy. Make sure you can update that information yourself, without waiting for the vendor.
5. What will it really cost?
The advertised price is not the final price. Add up three things:
- The platform's monthly subscription.
- WhatsApp conversation fees charged by Meta, which vary by message type and country.
- Any setup or extra support costs.
6. Where is your customers' data stored?
If you're a clinic or handle sensitive data, ask where data is stored and whether the vendor complies with your country's data-protection law, such as Saudi Arabia's Personal Data Protection Law.
7. Can you test before committing?
Ask for a trial on a test number and read the first hundred conversations yourself. Real numbers are more honest than any sales deck.
